Citroen C5 Aircross HYBRID Review 2020
There is something to be said for how stylish the C5 Aircross Hybrid is to look at. As a hybrid it can return up to 222mpg but somehow it looks more sporty than any other trim of the C5 Aircross.
The sporty looking SUV is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol turbo engine, offering 178bhp, and mated to a 13KW electric motor in the standard eight-speed automatic gearbox to make a powertrain with a maximum power of 222bhp and maximum torque of 369lb ft.
Power | 222 hp |
Torque | 500 Nm |
Battery | 13.2 kWh |
Engine | 1.6 Litre 4-Cylinder |
Assistance Features | Adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind-spot assist, reversing camera, parking sensors |
Having that electric motor means instant torque so despite being a front wheel drive car it pulls away instantly from traffic lights and never feels lacking. That feeling is something which is addictive.
Even in performance cars there isn’t that instant torque and you can find yourself missing that space when you want to turn off onto another road; but when you realise that you’re not using any petrol it is even more rewarding.
The C5 aircross isn’t lacking in technology either; it has a whole range of assistance features including adaptive cruise control, lane assist and a very unique reversing camera system that shows you where you have been when you pull back out of a space. Something that is particularly useful when adjusting position in a space and moving back and forth.
The C5 Hybrid also brings full LED lights to the range which make it look even more classy; and of course it comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
That 80KW battery will power the C5 Hybrid up to 35 miles at 85 mph which is more than enough to drive around the town or city and never have to use that combustion engine.
If you need some extra power or need to go further the 1.6 litre engine will kick in to help you along the way and 0-62mph takes 8.7 seconds and the fantastic traction control channels all that extra torque without any problem.
This car may be front wheel drive but it doesn’t feel like it when you hit the pedal and need to pull away.
Charging the car from a 7KW home charger takes around 2 and a half hours but on a standard home plug you would want to leave it all night. Not that is a concern as that engine will do the work if the battery runs low.
Inside the C5 it feels premium and quality with leather and fabrics covering everything including the dashboard which is one area lots of cars miss out on and there is plenty of space in the rear as well for your shopping and/or pets.
The C5 Aircross Hybrid starts at £34,000 and is well worth the price.
