Polestar 2 Review
The Polestar 2 is the newest car to try and disrupt Tesla but Polestar has more in common with Tesla than you might think.
Polestar started off as the performance division of Volvo but in an effort to differentiate it became the electric car division of parent company Geely. And that was a great move on their part.
You can’t look at the Polestar 2 without seeing that Volvo resemblance but Polestar is to Volvo what Alfa Romeo is to Fiat; the next step up to another level in performance and quality.
The Polestar 2 packs a 78kWh battery good for 292 miles of WLTP range and 400hp which is plenty of range and lots of performance for the starting price of £49,900 for the standard model.
And this car sits on 19 inch alloy wheels which make it look striking and exciting to anyone who spots it silently passing them in an instance. If you opt for the performance model you get 20 inch wheels and gold Brembo brakes.
Inside this car is the first production vehicle with Android Automotive; which means it is powered by Android just like your non-iPhone mobile phone.
Power | 400 hp |
Torque | 660 Nm |
Battery | 78 kWh |
Range | 292 Miles (WLTP) |
Assistant Features | Adaptive Cruise, Lane Assist, 360 Camera, Parking Sensors, Blind Spot Assist |
This car is an expert at making technology as easy to use as possible. Large easy to navigate menus allow you to adjust everything from the one-pedal breaking to your adaptive cruise control. And of course this car has all the latest assistance features as well.
With Android powering the whole vehicle you have access to Google Maps and the Google voice assistant built into the car. Your navigation will be in the digital drivers display but being Google Maps you won’t get lost and it will stay up to date.
The build in Google Play App store means you can download Spotify or Waze or any number of Android apps right to your car. The only downside which ironically also affects Tesla is that you will have to connect your phone by Bluetooth to get access to all your contacts and there is no Apple CarPlay either (although that is coming soon and hopefully improvements to Android phone integration).
The quality in this car feels a step above the comparably sized and priced Tesla Model 3; but the Model 3 does feel more spacious and lighter inside.
If you want an eclectic electric car with the latest from Google and the best from Volvo then the Polestar 2 is a car that is worth taking for a drive into your driveway.
