2021 Audi A3 Detailed Review: Tech & Exterior
The Audi A3 was the last of the previous generation of car that Audi made to be due an update but what was in need of a change?
After all the 2017 facelift brought lots of technology and changes.
The facelift brought the Audi virtual cockpit, adaptive cruise, lane assist, Android Auto and CarPlay, parking assist and other improvements.
As an owner of a 2017 generation of A3 (a 2018 RS3 Saloon) the areas I felt that were lacking were the main infotainment display – which although 7 inches – is small compared to the newest cars and the ambient lighting was very basic.
The 2020 A3 has a totally new interior redesign supposedly inspired by the interiors of the latest Lamborghini’s while the exterior has had an update creating new bodywork which looks more dramatic but still looks like an A3.
It is a bigger exterior change than the Golf 8 underwent but still recognisable.
Inside the car gone is the pop-up display controlled by the click-wheel replaced by a higher resolution 10.1 inch touch screen which dominated the interior. The virtual cockpit is now standard and has had a slight redesign of the interface (although I don’t think it is an improvement).
In line with all the models up to and including the A5 there are separate climate controls instead of a second touch display which makes it easier to adjust on the move but surprisingly the buttons have had a redesign when they could have simply used the same climate controls like the other Audi facelift models.
The technology has improved in capabilities and look compared to the previous generation and it is fully loaded.
The new Ambient lighting has several preset settings but each area of the car is adjustable with 30 different colours to chose from to make the interior ambiance your own.
The new A3 has improved on the previous generation with a more striking design evolution and improved technology inside the car which makes it a compelling choice if your after a premium car of this size.
