Audi R8 2020: Tech Review
The Audi R8 is a car that feels a bit strange to me; not because of its look or its performance – which are both eye-catching and astounding – but because it is amazing value for exactly that reason.
If you can call a car that costs £117,000 starting price good value and can cost over £160,000.
For that price you can something that is becoming rare these days – a naturally aspirated V10 engine making either 533bhp, 562bhp or 611bhp dependent on the specification of the car you chose.
However what you can’t dispute is the fact not many V10 powered cars are being made now and that it is down to the R8 and the Lamborghini Huracán (except a Ford truck in the US).
The sound of a V10 is intoxicating and even with it being subject to EU emissions rules you can’t tame the passion in that engine.
The R8 is also unique amongst the Audi family in having no central display (only the TT is the same) which means all functionality exists in the Audi virtual cockpit.
How do you fit Android Auto or Apple CarPlay between the rev counters on an R8? It looks a bit strange but it does provide something that many drivers have wanted as a side effect; Google Maps in the dashboard.
This car is in this video is the R8 Performance Quattro (Black with Carbon Trim) with a 5.2 litre naturally aspirated V10 engine. This video covers the exterior features and then goes into a full detailed guide of the Audi R8 infotainment system.
